I just finished watching it and I don't really understand the ending either.
SPOILERS AHOY!!
Is the main character still on Inferno II? And why is it that he is standing in front of the white space ship and then the ending comes up? Is it supposed to be an open ending, or what?

I think the only way the ending makes sense is if Inferno II used to be inhabited by an intelligent race (which I think is hinted at) that got wiped out by a virus of some sort that maybe hitches rides on spaceships and devours the life on the planets they get to. I dunno, I'm just guessing at this point... I liked the OVA, but it desperately needs better subs and better picture quality. Half the time it's too dark or fuzzy to see what's going on.

I dunno, I'm just guessing at this point... It makes no sense to me, because he is standing in front of it without seeing any other human being there. I dunno if the production staff ran out of money in the end to show any others, or it was their intention from the beginning (?), but it definitely still looks very questionable to me. Also nice idea of yours. BTW what do you think this is meant to be: A creature's eye, or even the transformed planet Earth? I still don't know! I liked the OVA, but it desperately needs better subs and better picture quality. Half the time it's too dark or fuzzy to see what's going on. Agreed. The current upload has to much too dark red tones and blurred white/blue tones in it.

That's definitely the creature's eye. Remember, at the end the spider-like monster rematerialized to get at the new rescue ship even though the guy thought it (the monster) was destroyed. Come to think of it, the monster coming back would make more sense to show at the very end after the ship landed, not before it landed. I don't know why they showed the ship that landed after the monster comes back. In fact, they could have done away with the final looking-at-the-rescue-ship scene and it would have made more sense.
Also, what the hell is up with that ending song? It's nice, but the tone of it doesn't fit well at all in my opinion. At least that love song (that I admit I kinda like) from the end of Roots Search fits in with the clunky and cheesy theme. And Lily-CAT's end theme has a very 80's (like the movie) overtone with an optimistic-yet-somber set of lyrics and melody. But "Adios Amor" sounds like it came from a 40's Spanish romance movie.

About the ending music I might guess it's a stylistic device in Japanese cinema to use such positive-feelings-and-desires-emphasizing music in horror films. Ever watched End of Evangelion? Check out the music during the slaughter scene when almost every human is being eliminated.

I couldn't find Nayuta subbed in English anywhere, so I've been translating some Brazillian Portuguese subs for it into English (thank God for Google Translate). If it works out well, and it's going well so far, I'll probably post the whole thing on youtube when I'm done.

I do my best. ;D Come to think of it, wasn't Nayuta in that old GaGa Communications promo reel? I think it was renamed "Aura" or something like that. Too bad it was never released in the US. Weird that we eventually chose to liscense crummy stuff like Roots Search and The Humanoid instead of more decent shows like Nayuta and Scoopers...

So what about this nice mecha OVA? Despite of Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed and so on this is one of Shiro's less known works.

Blond hair must still look really fancy in Japanese eyes. And even more back in the 1980s:
