I just watched a kinda freaky horror OVA called "The Curse of Kazuo Umezu." Kinda cheesy and not animated all that well, but still surprisingly eerie and fun to watch. I thought the first story (the OVA is split into two separate stories) was especially creepy. There's a fansub of it available here: www.bakabt.com/144283-the-curse-of-kazuo-umezu-box.html

fokkusu: I bet the story with the girl with a "monster" for a throat is creepy as hell.

I do my best. ^_~ fokkusu: I bet the story with the girl with a "monster" for a throat is creepy as hell. Yup, that's the first story I was referring to. It caught me off guard because at first I was expecting something entirely different to happen.

Funnily enough, James was planning on reviewing Guy: Double Target EONS ago. We're still thinking about it though as the first episode at least is batshit insane. Internal penetration shots: EWWWWW!
Not watched Legend of Lyon Flare but I have certainly heard of it. Also thanks for letting me know about Great Monster Duel, looks great and it's by Toshihiro Hirano (Iczer-1) so it's got some cheesy pedigree behind it.

Saw a fansub of "Call Me Tonight" recently... it's about a guy who turns into a monster whenever he sees something even slightly dirty. He calls a callgirl to talk about his problems, and they end up meeting IRL. Hijinks ensue. Mostly involving a group of high school monster-slayers. This OVA is stupid. I mean really stupid. But since it's a *horror* comedy of all things, I think that was intentional, and I admire it for not taking itself seriously. Overall it's fun to watch once or twice. "Galaxie of Horror" (yes, it even has that typo) is a movie within the OVA... kinda reminds me of "Roots Search" if "Roots Search" only had higher production values. It would've been cool to see "Galaxie of Horror" as another 80's "Alien" rip-off OVA... oh well.

The story of Call Me Tonight is, as one guy put it, "so stupid it's awesome." I have to agree with him on that one. The animation is quite good though compared to a lot of other 80's anime. And yeah, the monster designs are pretty neat. I personally really wish they had made Galaxie of Horror its own OVA. I'm a sci-fi nerd. ;D And I adore anime rip-offs of Alien, as you all have probably already guessed. Unfortunately for me, I only know of Lily-CAT and Roots Search. Which makes me wonder, are there any similar space-horror anime titles out there?

I thought the aliens from Galaxie of Horror looked familiar, then it hit me: They're the exact same aliens from the classic Japanese / U.S. sci-fi co-production GREEN SLIME! Either it's a remake or a pseudo-sequel to the classic campy flick, no doubt.

lol, that's funny. I gotta see that movie now. I doubt that "Galaxie of Horror" would get the G-rating that "Green Slime" did (according to Wikipedia), judging by the clips from "Call Me Tonight." XD

Saw it, liked it, didn't understand the ending though. Why did Earth become hell, exactly... ? I thought the monsters and stuff were being materialized by a psychic virus or something. I dunno, the subs were pretty butchered, so it was kinda hard to understand.
