I dislike the negativity of the other thread for types of music you don't like, so I figured I'd switch it around. ;D
Favourite singers, bands, artists, scenes, genres, decades, you name it! What types of music do you listen to the most?
Personally, I'm all into prog rock and metal, and other forms of prog. I LOVE progressive music! Problem with it nowadays: It has a "sound" and doesn't try to progress too much. That sucks... Like, the amount of prog metal bands that try too much to sound like Dream Theater? Makes me sad.
But my favourite prog bands include Rush, Ayreon, Dream Theater, Alan Parson's Project, the Italian prog rock scene in its entire, shortlived, glory (Osanna, Il Biglietto Per L'Inferno, Il Balletto Di Bronzo, Apoteosi. I might have the spelling wrong on some of them though, since I don't know Italian ), I also like pretty Porcupine Tree, Beardfish, and plenty, plenty others. For an avante-garde, modern example, I like Mars Volta.
(sorry for this being such a shitty post, its early, and I can't write well when I've only recently gotten up)
Another thing I like is POP MUSIC! Believe it or not. I really like it to be electronic driven, like Lady Gaga, or Ke$ha. I don't really like 90s pop nearly as much as some of the modern stuff. I'm majorly picky with it though, like I am with most stuff (except for prog, because you can't really truly be prog without being good at what you do). I guess you could put this pop music under techno, but for the most part I hate techno, like dance, house, etc. The only trance I like is Yuzo Koshiro's Wangan Midnight soundtracks, and I hate electropop (or disco, if you want to call it that) with male vocals, for the most part.
Another thing I like is electronica, although once again I'm picky with it. My favourite artist is Susumu Hirasawa, and I also like Vangelis.
I like Chiptunes as well, I follow the scene, although not too well. When I get a license I'll be able to drive into Montréal, and see the scene for real! It doesn't really exist in Ottawa.
Other than that, I mostly just listen to video game soundtracks, which fall under a lot of genres, but are often melody driven so I guess that's part of why I like them above other stuff. Highlights are Falcom's OSTs and arrange albums, Yasunori Mitsuda, and Zuntata.
The last thing I like is avante-garde weird shit, like Noise and other such things. I don't particularly like the sounds of that stuff, but it is often interesting and artistic, so it is worth at least a listen if it is good.
