It was the year 1998 when our beloved Koichi Ohata visited Germany in an attend to meet some anime fans, maybe also of his works, at Comicsalon Erlangen. But guess what happened, REALLY: Speaker: Attention, please. Koichi Ohata, director and mecha designer for MD Geist and Genocyber, will now be signing at booth 17. Child: Uncle from Japan, will you draw me a Sailor Moon? Other children: Me, too! Sailor Moon! - Me, too! Lots of children: Sailor Moon! - Sailor Moon! - wah wah Sailor Moon! - Me, too! - That really happened. Koichi Ohata, who had mainly worked on hard action and horror animes which had been released as 18+ in Germany and England, was guest of honor at Comicsalon Erlangen 1998. Back then, Sailor Moon was at the height of its popularity and for many children in particular (...but not exclusively) it seemed obvious that an artist from Japan would draw Sailor Moon. We have encountered artists who politely decline to draw characters which do not belong to their works, but Mr Ohata was incredibly professional and nice and drew any amount of Sailor Senshi without complaining.
