First of all sorry for the delay - today I wrote my last exam for this year of school. That point about the French getting the original version, with the girly character, is pretty good, because the French indeed have a greater appreciation of Japanese culture. Just look back at the 50´s and 60´s and perhaps look for French-Japanese co-produced movies. Personally I would prefer a mix of western protagonists and Japanese. I´d say it´s not a big and difficult step to do so in the future. For whatever reason I want to see a female M.D. Geist now, just because that'd still be more awesome than an androgynous one (well yeah, women kick ass). The hell I want one either!

Yeah, I actually did see Hiroshima mon Amour, a French-Japanese co-production, decent one too.

And not only movies are more appreciated; art like old woodprints and paints from the Edo period.
Another thing related to the topic: Why do the Japanese heroes use swords and knifes that much these days? Wasn´t there also a time, when Japanese (anti-)heroes relied on some good looking assault rifle? It´s pretty annoying.

They have done for years, JRPG codes and conventions really.

If you mean stuff like the Metal Gear games, then of course.

Nah, they're not JRPGs. I think it's just easier to make a game involving what should be melee combat in a fantasy setting.

Didn't click the link (at school), but I think maybe my French heritage might be why I appreciate Japanese stuff the way I do. Notice the way I do, because I'm not one of the useless guys at my school who LOVES the crap that constantly is released these days.
I will admit however, that I've got a love/hate relationship with the stupid jumpy modern Asian artfilms and tokusatsu shows. Then again, most of the lame-os at my school wouldn't know what those things were, least of all good examples thereof (seriously kids, Takashi Miike)
