It has actually been a coincidence that I found this, but Studio GONZO must have reanimated the TV series of Hellsing for the DVD release back in the days. The quality of animation gravely changed - and the character looks aswell. Here´s a small demonstration: In my opinion the original broadcast version has a more fitting mature look, but lacks due to some small mistakes (third last broadcast picture: body anatomy (!)) But nevertheless: Since yesterday a part of my inside died! Parts of my childhood are violated! P.S.: Does somebody have this broadcast version on VHS or DVD? I´m ready to make a deal. ;D

This is nothing new, many anime studios do this, Gainax in particular is known for doing this on stuff like Evangelion and Gurren Lagann. It's done because many times studios are restricted by broadcast deadlines to finish up any particular episode, so they'll do what they can with the episode for broadcast, and then fix up the animation for the eventual home video release and / or foreign releases.
BTW, I prefer Seras in the DVD re-do than in the broadcast version merely because it's closer to Kouta Hirano's illustrations of her in the manga.

Alright, I understand the thing with the broadcast deadlines, but it´s slightly annoying when you like the older version more - like I do in this case. Too bad there´s no DVD out with the original braodcast version as an extra.
