My current topic in my English lessons deals with media, especially in the UK. Like last Thursday we´ve been taught that television is a very important part of the British society, and that the people from the UK watch up to nearly four hours a day TV. I am still sceptical about this information, but what can you tell me about this? Is it really true? Also, take a look on the information´s source:

I can tell you that the hours I spend watching TV are absolutely 0, I only ever use it for DVDs and games, but I think I can say the average Briton does watch that amount. My classmates talk about what shows are on a lot and I would say it's a very British thing, you might want to make a mention about how normal TV viewing may be dying out with how much creative control we have over what we watch (recording, BBC iPlayer etc).

Have to agree with VendevalEste on this one. I have practically no interest at all in watching television, call me undiverse if you wish but nearly nothing on British television interests me at all; mostly it's just the same loop of Doctor Who (which I am not a fan of at all), bland period pieces and stodgy crime dramas. Also hate to be crude but also ITV can shove it due to their reckless editing of movies both before and after the 9PM watershed. In other words, UK television's popularity with people my age is a total mystery to me.

So you two have the same view and opinion like I have. TV in general is making a step backwards by broadcasting massiv waves of reality TV shows, casting series, stodgy crime dramas and by reprising too old (and edited) stuff - sadly enough the UK is no exception. So thanks for the infos, you two! Now I´m one step ahead comparing to the others.

Well, I do like some TV, yes, but for I only ever buy it on DVD. I like some Scrubs, and as repetitive as it, House, although I haven't watched that it a while. I also don't mind the new dramas too much, but that's all mindless, nothing I'd call a fav. I mean Gossip Girl, 90210, Desperate Housewives, so yeah, the girly shit, but whatever, its just something to have my eyes gloss over to.
We don't get cable in this house, and I never will, personally.

Shit. So overseas has almost reached German standard. I know it might sound weird, but in Germany there are broadcast all the shows you just listed. And I mean every single of them. It´s just so annoying. And it´s even more annoying that, and I mean this literally, NONE TV channel broadcasts adult anime shows for almost five years now.
