The team that worked on Birth, Kanamae Productions, also worked on an OAV called Leda: The Fantastic Adventure of Yohko and a film called Windaria. Both are a bit more watchable than Birth but with the same unique animation style.

That could explain why both Birth and Windaria were licensed together in the same year by Harmony Gold, that or Kaname Productions were selling the international licenses for a decent price.

I've watched the anime in english dubbed on my local television and it was unofficially divided into five episodes(30 mins. each), that was over 20 years ago. Shit, good ol' times, I remember that the ending is such a downer.
