It is quite interesting to see how many characters of anime shows or manga books were based on famous celebrities, which is not a common thing today anymore. But as you can see this kind of trend was very popular during the 1980s. If you know any other characters who actually have role models, then of course feel free to add them here. Billy Idol - M.D. Geist (M.D. Geist I: Most Dangerous Soldier) Sylvester Stallone - Kenshiro (Hokuto no Ken 2) Jean-Paul Belmondo - Cobra (Cobra) Clint Eastwood - Shane Gooseman (The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers) And for the special episode "Galaxy Stranger" - which is not only relying on the story of "Pale Rider" (1985) as you can see ...

Kenshiro's a good mix of things, the heavyset body of Stallone with the agility and posture of Bruce Lee.
Christ, Geist does look remarkably like Billy Idol in that picture, but when was that picture taken?

Before June 1982. It´s Billy Idol´s very good debut album by the way.

That was someone in Battle Arena Toshinden 3 who is basically Michael in his Smooth Criminal get-up.
Probably are characters in shows though that resemble him.

Kenshiro's a good mix of things, the heavyset body of Stallone with the agility and posture of Bruce Lee. Don't forget the fashion sense and "lone wanderer of the post-apocalyptic desert wasteland" character archetype of Mad Max. And the squaky high pitched Kiai shouts also come from Bruce Lee. I always saw him as mostly Mad Max mixed with Bruce Lee myself. His low, menacing, straight to the point manner of speech (coupled with those glasses pictured above) do definitely call to mind Stallone's Cobra character though.

Yeah, the Bruce Lee-Mad Max mix only takes place in the first series, but then in the second series the animators based Ken on Stallone. Probably because Rambo 2 and Cobra were both some huge success in Japan.

I like that little transition, they were riding on the contemporay waves of manliness.

Just searched Billy Idol on youtube, listened to his song Rebel Yell and it's fantastic! Anyway I remember the anime series called Yakitate Japan, a minor character named Kid resembles Brad Pitt here's the comparison: Brad Pitt- Kid from Yakitate Japan- Yep every scene of him, it uses the same face and expression, even in different angles!

Yep every scene of him, it uses the same face and expression, even in different angles! That´s annoying!

Yesh, for about 0,5 seconds. : ) I wonder if there will be resembling characters to this person in the upcoming Iron Man and Wolverine anime series.
