I don't understand, how? At most, you should have hoped it was a PROPER remaster and transfer, otherwise, so you would be watching the film as it appeared in cinemas then.

Well, it had to do more with the way HD affects motion rather than resolution, to be honest. It looked like a daytime soap opera more than a film because of the overly smooth motions. I'm not such a purist that I don't appreciate remastering and the like, but again, it took away the sense of drama in a way. Ah, that would be because of your TV set-up.

Went to a double screening of Troll 2 and its documentary, Best Worst Movie, with a friend.
Our jaws hurt from laughing so much.

My last few films now seen would be the splendid Submarine, which is Richard Ayoade's first directorial effort. It's charmingly funny and delightfully told with marvellous cinematography, so it's so pretty to admire.
Secondly, would be Mario Bava's A Bay of Blood, the stylistic predeccesor to pretty much every other slasher movie to follow. Known under too many other titles as per many Italian films, this is an interesting piece of Italian cinematic history; hokey at times, but impeccably well-made for something on a shoestring budget. It may even appear a bit incoherent at times, do see it though. Arrow Films gave this the typically great DVD release.
Thirdly, Werner Herzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams in 3D. It's effectively a poetic documentation of a pristine cave found in the South of France in 1994 that contained drawings from the earliest records of man, and was absolutely pristine. Yes, a non-blockbuster movie in 3D. Herzog makes fantastic use of the medium, truly savouring the beauty of what's in these caves while giving a lot of food for thought. When I saw this, it was followed by a live Q&A satellite screening with Herzog himself, which was very insightful and enjoyable. I would hate to say this is less worthwhile in 2D, because it's not, but if you do get the chance to see it in 3D, do so. It's easily the most worthwhile flick ever to be produced in it, and certainly shows it.
I think that's all...

The Meaning of Life by Monty Python? Oh, and Kickboxer from Hell is a waste of time, but you know that anyway, my friend.

Saw a pretty recent anime movie called "King of Thorns." It's easily one of my favorites now. The story is difficult to explain without giving away a significant part of the plot, but it's an odd mix of scifi, horror, and fairytale. Yet the combination was done very well- it didn't seem forced or unnatural. I recommend it, though I will warn you, it has a fair amount of mindfuckery near the end. Though not as much as "Paprika."

Battle: Los Angeles. Think one really badly done shaky-cam action sequence then expand that to 2 hours. That's the film.

The fact they want to turn it into a series just makes me think it's gonna be the equivalent of a VHS series of mondo movies just showing natural disasters.
